Malas are a traditional tool used in meditation to count the recitation of prayers or mantras. They can be used as a part of a religious practice, worn as a reminder of intentions set, or to simply find peace.
Typically a mala has 108 prayer beads and a larger guru bead. Many of our malas also include pause beads - slightly larger beads that mark quarterly intervals. The pause bead serves as a gentle reminder to refocus our intentions if our mind has wandered.
Malas are traditionally made with wooden, seed, bone, or gemstone beads. Each of these materials carries with it a unique meaning and energy. They can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around the wrist.
